One Year of Script Lettering

It has been exactly one year since I started using brush pens and teaching myself script lettering. Below are one picture from each month.

Edward's Drawings

This past weekend, my longtime friend Edward Patlan commissioned me to do four different designs for his new place. I have been crazy busy lately, but since I was going to be in San Marcos for the weekend anyway, I really wanted to knock these out for him. We worked together to come up with four sayings that would, not only relate to him, but have some notoriety and appeal as well. Since we are both big fans of rap, particularly rap with content and clever, meaningful lyrics, we resorted to that. Pictured are the final drawings with quotes from Jay Z, Biggie, Kendrick and Kanye. Ed picked out The Kanye and Biggie lines, and I added the Kendrick and Jay Z lines, of course. 

Are You Dreaming

Recently I designed a tee for my then ill friend Gilbert GuGu Cruz. I am sad to say GuGu has passed away. The tees Lee and I designed however, were very well received. I believe they raised about $1,000 for GuGu's family.

I attended the funeral and was mixed with emotions to see that GuGu was wearing the shirt we designed. He was buried in the tee that had my lettering on it. Lettering that he introduced me to. That is still a surreal thing to me.

Soon after the tee was printed, GuGu's brother in law, Rich Guerra, asked me if I could work on a special project for his sister Olivia, who is Gu's wife.

Of course I quickly responded that I would be glad to do it. So we talked and he gave me a quote that has deep meaning for Olivia and Gu. The quote is

"If you're sleeping, are you dreaming, if you're dreaming, are you dreaming of me?"

You're My Favorite

Here is a quick video of some lettering I plan on painting very soon. Let's see how that goes.

Still excited about the Spurs winning their 5th NBA championship, I created this short video of some lettering I did inspired by The Beautiful Game video below.

Internship Portfolio

I spent so much time putting this portfolio together for an internship this summer. Well, turns out I could intern at my current job so I didn't even get to show anyone.
